Arthaus Berlin

Living with art is an art of living.

Kayatis is a large, two bedroom flat in a very desirable part of Tempelhof, one of Berlin's quickly up-and-coming neighborhoods. Transportation in the neighborhood is excellent, with easy access to the U6 bringing you to Mitte in under thirty minutes. There are an embarrassing number of high-quality grocery stores within a few block radius, including in the Tempelhofer Hafen, a surprisingly beautiful mall overlooking the harbor. Also in the immediate neighborhood is the UFA Fabrik, a former Nazi propaganda film studio that was reclaimed by hippies in the 70's and is currently a cultural center with a charming cafe, children's farm, theaters, and a still-operational commune. Tempelhof is one of Berlin's best districts for parks and Kayatis is within walking distance of at least three great ones in addition to many playgrounds. We are also a short train ride (or nice long walk) to Tempelhofer Feld, the former Tempelhof Airport (site of the Berlin Airlift) and currently Europe's largest park.

Kayatis is filled with unexpected and surprising colors and objects, the most impressive of which is an entire wall crafted into a bookcase made from over 100 antique wooden wine crates dating from the 1930s to 1970s. Guests will have access to an excellent library of more than 3,000 varied and eclectic books in English, French, and German. The living room also has a dining table and couch with custom-made Belgian chenille cushions. There are two bedrooms, one with an American queen sized bed and the other with an American full sized bed. The larger bedroom has cable TV and a charming balcony overlooking the Hof (yard) with an umbrella and genuine Saarinen Tulip chairs and table. The kitchen features new appliances including a gas stove and washing machine, and boasts a vintage stainless-steel sink imported from an American restaurant. For our musician guests, a gorgeous 1949 Carl Sauter upright, burlwood piano (tuned regularly) is available upon request. Wireless internet access is provided at no extra charge. Kaytis is available from Spring to Fall and can accommodate up to four guests.

Please note that it's not yet possible to make a reservation in Kayatis. In the meantime our Kreuzberg studio, Arthaus, is available.
