The walls of Legba are graced by artwork including original prints signed by the photographers. Works include a black and white photograph representing Santeria by a famous Cuban artist and the iconic image of Evander Hollyfield's bloody ear by a renowned American sports photographer.
Legba is located in a pristinely preserved Altbau in the heart of Kreuzberg, Berlin's hippest neighborhood filled with cafes, bars, movie theaters, boutiques, markets, restaurants, and plenty of freaky characters. Viktoria Park featuring Berlin's only waterfall is just one block from Legba, and Tempelhofer Feld, Europe's largest park is just five minutes away. Legba is in the Hinterhof (back of the building) on a quiet, residential street yet mere minutes from major public transportation lines sucas the U1, U6, U7, and many bus lines including the M140 (to Neukoelln) and M19 (to Charlottenburg) which will bring you easily and quickly to all that the Haupstadt has to offer.
The exposed brick walls and arched doorways of Legba are a perfect compliment to the original artwork and thoughtfully arranged objects in the flat. Guests will enjoy a cozy yet complete kitchen including a washing machine and a full sized refrigerator. The bathroom features a generously sized bathtub. Wireless internet is available at no extra charge. Legba is available year-round, has one full sized, American bed and can accommodate singles or couples.
Legba frequently hosts artists on the cutting edge of their fields and the ambience and decor we've cultivated reflects this aesthetic. Past guests have included a member of David Bowie's band, legendary American trumpet player Don Cherry's music director, and a recipient of a 2016 MacArthur Genius Award. Rather than appealing to the lowest common denominator or making everyone feel comfortable, we embrace the dual purposes of art to both inspire and provoke. An ever-changing art installation, Legba is filled with recycled, upcycled, reclaimed, reused, repurposed, and vintage items from three centuries and five continents. Some are delighted by our vision others find it disturbing. If you love the idea of staying in a contemporary art gallery with all of the amenities you'll need, we look forward to welcoming you. If you prefer straight lines, muted colors, and the safety of the well-known, there are many other properties in Berlin for you.
